FLOYD, NY — Three 16 year old girls were injured in an ATV accident Saturday night in Oneida County, with one teenager suffering serious injuries that required emergency air transportation to a Syracuse hospital.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert Maciol, road patrol deputies responded to an address along State Route 274 in the town of Floyd around 10:40 p.m. Saturday, October 10, following reports of an ATV crash involving injuries.
When deputies arrived, they discovered three female juveniles who had reportedly been thrown from an all terrain vehicle they were riding together.
Emergency medical personnel evaluated the teenagers at the scene before arranging transportation to area hospitals.
Two of the girls were transported by ambulance to Wynn Hospital for medical evaluation. Authorities said both were subsequently released after their injuries were determined to be non life threatening.
The third teenager sustained more serious injuries and required emergency air transportation.
Mercy Flight transported her to SUNY Upstate Hospital in Syracuse for additional medical treatment. The Sheriff's Office did not disclose her current condition or provide further details about the extent of her injuries.
The crash prompted a response from multiple emergency agencies, including the Oneida County Sheriff's Office, Amcare Ambulance, Mercy Flight Central and the Holland Patent Fire Department .
Authorities have not released information about what caused the ATV to crash, whether protective equipment was being worn or who was operating the vehicle.
The investigation remains ongoing, and the Sheriff's Office indicated additional information could be released as it becomes available.
The incident highlights the potentially serious consequences of ATV accidents, particularly when multiple riders are involved.
Residents traveling near State Route 274 should be aware that the incident remains under investigation, although authorities have not announced any continuing roadway restrictions.
