Elmira, NY – Authorities in Chemung County are asking for the public& 39;s help Thursday after a piece of construction equipment was allegedly stolen from a work site at Elmira High School.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff& 39;s Office, investigators are looking into the theft from the construction site at the school, located at 777 South Main St. in the Town of Southport, near Elmira.
The sheriff& 39;s office said the theft allegedly occurred Thursday between approximately 1:17 a.m. and 1:50 a.m. Authorities did not identify the type or value of the construction equipment in their initial public statement.
As part of the investigation, the sheriff& 39;s office released surveillance imagery showing an individual investigators are seeking to identify. The image appears to have been captured at night near the construction area.
Authorities have not announced an arrest or publicly identified a suspect. The sheriff& 39;s office also has not disclosed additional details about how the equipment was allegedly removed from the property.
Investigators are asking anyone who recognizes the pictured individual or has information about the incident to contact the Chemung County Sheriff& 39;s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 607 737 2933 .
