Buffalo, NY – Halloween trick or treaters across western and northern New York should prepare for a sharp evening cooldown Saturday, October 31, as temperatures fall from the 50s into the 40s and upper 30s, with some communities reaching approximately 35 degrees by 11 p.m.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, dry conditions will prevail throughout the evening, with winds gradually diminishing. However, temperatures are expected to drop quickly after sunset, making warm clothing important for families heading outdoors.
In Buffalo, temperatures are forecast to decline from 55 degrees at 4 p.m. to 51 degrees by 7 p.m., before falling to approximately 45 degrees by 11 p.m.
Rochester will experience a similar cooldown, with temperatures dropping from 54 degrees at 4 p.m. to 47 degrees by 7 p.m. and 40 degrees by 11 p.m.
Niagara Falls is expected to cool from 55 degrees to 43 degrees during the same period.
Farther inland, temperatures could fall even lower.
Jamestown is forecast to drop from 57 degrees at 4 p.m. to approximately 38 degrees by 11 p.m., while Olean could reach 37 degrees.
Across northern New York, Lowville is expected to experience one of the coldest evening temperatures, falling from 49 degrees at 4 p.m. to approximately 35 degrees by 11 p.m.
Watertown is forecast to cool from 49 degrees to around 40 degrees, while Pulaski could reach 38 degrees.
Despite the rapid temperature decline, the National Weather Service expects favorable weather for Halloween activities, with no rain anticipated during the evening.
Parents are encouraged to dress children in warm layers beneath costumes, particularly for activities continuing after sunset.
Residents should also use flashlights or reflective accessories when walking through neighborhoods after dark.
The coldest temperatures in the supplied evening forecast are expected late Saturday, making additional layers especially helpful for anyone remaining outdoors.
