Buffalo, NY – A welcome stretch of fall weather is arriving across western and north central New York on Sunday, Oct. 18, bringing mostly sunny skies, milder afternoon temperatures and the promise of several additional days of favorable weather.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, a nearby high pressure system will deliver mostly sunny conditions Sunday, with temperatures noticeably warmer than Saturday. Additional high pressure systems are expected to maintain generally fair weather throughout the upcoming week.
Sunday brings sunshine and highs near 60
Temperatures across western New York are expected to climb into the upper 50s and lower 60s Sunday afternoon.
Buffalo and Dunkirk are forecast to reach approximately 60 degrees, while Rochester could approach 62 degrees. Batavia is expected near 60, with temperatures around 61 in Lockport and 63 near Dansville.
Farther east, Syracuse area communities could reach the lower 60s, while Watertown and surrounding northern locations remain cooler, generally in the middle to upper 50s.
Southwest winds will accompany the warmer conditions, with occasional gusts reaching 25 mph Sunday afternoon in areas northeast of the Great Lakes.
Residents spending time outdoors should anticipate a noticeable breeze, particularly in exposed locations.
Dry weather expected through the workweek
The larger weather story extends beyond Sunday.
Forecasters expect high pressure to remain influential across the region throughout the week, supporting extended periods of dry weather and generally favorable conditions for travel, outdoor recreation and fall activities.
While temperatures may fluctuate from day to day, the overall pattern appears relatively quiet compared with more unsettled October weather.
Looking ahead toward Halloween
As the final full week of October approaches, residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts for any changes in temperatures or precipitation.
Longer range outlooks provide broader trends rather than reliable Halloween specific predictions, meaning conditions for Oct. 31 remain uncertain.
For now, western New York residents can expect a mostly sunny Sunday and a generally dry weather pattern heading into the new workweek.
