BUFFALO, NY – Dark clouds and another round of thunderstorms could disrupt travel across the Buffalo area Tuesday, Oct. 13, as unsettled weather returns to western New York. Showers become increasingly likely during the afternoon, with gusty winds potentially creating difficult driving conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, Tuesday carries a 70% chance of precipitation, with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. Southwest winds of 10 to 14 mph could produce gusts reaching 28 mph.
The greatest concern involves afternoon travel across Buffalo and surrounding Erie County communities. Drivers should prepare for wet pavement, reduced visibility during heavier showers and changing conditions along major routes.
Before Tuesday's storms arrive, Sunday, Oct. 11, brings widespread rain chances. Forecasters expect an 80% probability of precipitation, with temperatures reaching approximately 65 degrees.
Rainfall amounts Sunday should generally remain between one tenth and one quarter inch, although locally higher totals are possible.
Sunday night offers some improvement, with rain chances dropping to 30% and temperatures falling near 55 degrees.
Monday, Oct. 12, provides a relatively quieter period for Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day activities. Mostly cloudy skies are expected, with temperatures climbing to 68 degrees.
However, showers could develop after 2 a.m. Tuesday, with a slight thunderstorm possibility after 5 a.m.
Tuesday's unsettled weather continues into the evening. Showers remain likely, with thunderstorms possible before 8 p.m. Rain chances reach 60%, while wind gusts could approach 21 mph.
Five Day Outlook: Wednesday brings mostly cloudy skies and a high near 63 degrees. Thursday turns partly sunny, reaching 62. Friday remains mostly cloudy with a 50% shower chance and highs near 62. Saturday cools to approximately 53 degrees, with a 30% chance of showers.
