Buffalo, NY – Residents across Western New York, including Buffalo, Rochester, the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes, should prepare for a wetter Sunday as showers move into the region overnight. Some communities could receive up to three quarters of an inch of rainfall before the weekend ends.
According to the National Weather Service in Buffalo, mainly dry conditions are expected Saturday night, October 10, before showers begin arriving late tonight into early Sunday morning, October 11.
Where the Heaviest Rain Is Expected
Forecasters predict rainfall totals ranging from 0.25 to 0.75 inch across portions of the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes.
Communities near Jamestown, Olean and areas south of Interstate 90 could experience some of the more substantial rainfall.
Lesser amounts are expected north of I 90 and east of Lake America, according to the weather service's forecast. Areas closer to Lake Ontario may see lighter accumulations.
Sunday Rain Chances Increase
The forecast indicates rain probabilities will rise throughout Sunday, particularly during the afternoon.
Buffalo could see precipitation chances reach approximately 80%, while Rochester may experience probabilities approaching 80%.
Farther south, communities including Jamestown and Olean could see rain chances reach 85% during portions of the day.
The highest rain probabilities will not necessarily coincide with the heaviest rainfall totals.
What Drivers Should Expect
Motorists traveling Interstate 90, Interstate 86 and surrounding highways Sunday should prepare for periods of wet pavement and reduced visibility during heavier showers.
Outdoor activities, weekend errands and afternoon travel could also be affected as precipitation spreads across the region.
The National Weather Service has not indicated widespread severe weather in this forecast.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updated forecasts as rainfall timing and amounts may change throughout Sunday.
