Buffalo, NY – Breezy conditions will affect western New York Wednesday, Oct. 7, with the strongest wind gusts expected northeast of Lake Erie before a cold front crosses the region during the evening.
The National Weather Service in Buffalo said gusts northeast of Lake Erie could reach the mid to upper 30 mph range Wednesday. Its forecast graphic indicates winds up to about 35 mph in that area, compared with around 20 mph elsewhere.
The breeze is expected ahead of an approaching cold front and should weaken during the evening hours.
Temperatures Wednesday will remain mild, with highs across the NWS Buffalo forecast area ranging from about 64 to 70 degrees.
The cold front is expected to pass Wednesday evening and bring a few showers. The NWS did not indicate widespread heavy rainfall or provide rainfall totals in the outlook.
Behind the front, temperatures will fall into the 40s and lower 50s overnight. Forecast lows range from about 46 to 51 degrees.
The wind will be the most noticeable weather feature during the day, particularly in communities northeast of Lake Erie where gusts will be strongest. However, the NWS post does not indicate a wind advisory or warning.
Residents should expect breezy conditions through Wednesday afternoon, followed by a few showers as the front moves through during the evening. Winds should then ease as temperatures fall into the 40s and lower 50s overnight.
