Buffalo, NY – Residents across Western and Central New York are advised to prepare for potentially severe weather on Wednesday, September 9, 2026. The National Weather Service in Buffalo has issued a forecast calling for a band of showers and scattered thunderstorms moving across the area throughout the late afternoon and evening.
According to the National Weather Service, meteorologists have identified a marginal to slight risk of severe thunderstorms for the region. The primary hazard identified is the potential for isolated damaging wind gusts. While the storm system is expected to be less intense than weather patterns observed in the previous week, the service warns that conditions could still pose risks between 5:00 PM and 11:00 PM EDT.
Officials note that while heavy rainfall and localized downpours are likely, the fast motion of the storms should limit broader flooding concerns. Furthermore, while an isolated tornado cannot be entirely ruled out, particularly in the Southern Tier and western Finger Lakes, the overall environmental setup is not considered highly volatile.
Residents are encouraged to monitor local forecasts and remain weather aware throughout the evening hours.
