Bridgewater, NY – A 65 year old Oneida County man is facing multiple misdemeanor charges after allegedly shooting his neighbor's dog with a BB gun during a dispute in the Town of Bridgewater, with a child reportedly nearby when the incident occurred.
According to Oneida County Sheriff Robert M. Maciol, deputies assigned to the Waterville Field Office responded to a neighbor dispute and shots fired complaint at approximately 10:49 a.m. Monday, Oct. 26.
Investigators identified the suspect as Gregory B. Rogers, 65, of Bridgewater.
Authorities allege Rogers became involved in a confrontation with neighbors and used a BB gun to shoot their dog, injuring the animal.
The sheriff's office reported that a child was in close proximity when the dog was allegedly shot, raising additional concerns about the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Following the alleged shooting, investigators said Rogers continued arguing with his neighbors and allegedly threatened both the residents and their animals.
Deputies subsequently took Rogers into custody and transported him to the Kurt B. Wyman Law Enforcement Building for processing.
Rogers was charged with four misdemeanor offenses: second degree reckless endangerment, endangering the welfare of a child, third degree menacing and torturing or injuring an animal.
The sheriff's office did not release details about the dog's condition beyond confirming that the animal was injured.
Authorities also did not disclose the child's age or whether additional medical or veterinary treatment was required.
Rogers was issued appearance tickets requiring him to appear in Bridgewater Town Court at a later date.
The sheriff's office has not announced the specific date of his next court appearance.
The incident remains a criminal matter involving allegations of animal cruelty, threats and child endangerment.
All charges are allegations, and Rogers is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
