Binghamton, NY – Residents across upstate New York could experience an extended stretch of milder than normal fall weather as federal forecasts increasingly favor above average temperatures through late October and into the first half of November.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, temperatures are expected to warm to near or above seasonal averages this week, with longer range outlooks favoring above normal conditions for much of the following several weeks.
Warmer Pattern Develops Across New York The latest outlook, issued Sunday, October 18, shows a warming trend developing across the Northeast as October progresses.
For October 24 28, temperatures are expected to favor near normal conditions in some eastern areas, while above normal temperatures become more likely farther west.
The October 26 November 1 outlook shows a broader area of favored above normal temperatures extending across New York and much of the northeastern United States.
Communities including Binghamton, Syracuse, Ithaca, Elmira and surrounding areas could experience the effects of this developing pattern.
Above Normal Temperatures Favored Into November The longer range outlook covering October 31 November 13 continues to favor above normal temperatures across New York.
This does not mean every day will be unusually warm or that specific temperature records are expected.
Instead, the outlook indicates that average temperatures over the forecast period are more likely to finish above historical seasonal norms.
The extended outlook does not provide specific daily high or low temperatures.
Below Normal Rainfall Also Expected Along with the warmer pattern, the National Weather Service expects below normal rainfall during the next two weeks.
That combination could produce extended periods of relatively mild, dry autumn weather across portions of upstate New York.
However, individual rain events remain possible, and longer range forecasts may change as weather systems develop.
Residents planning outdoor activities, seasonal maintenance or travel should continue checking updated forecasts as November approaches.
