Binghamton, NY – November 2026 is approaching, and last year's weather records reveal an interesting contrast across New York's Southern Tier. Although Binghamton experienced several rounds of accumulating snow during November 2025, the city finished the month with less snowfall than typically expected, raising questions about how the upcoming winter season might begin.
According to the National Weather Service's November 2025 climate summary for Binghamton, the city recorded 5.1 inches of snowfall during the month, compared with a historical November normal of 6.8 inches. That represents a deficit of 1.7 inches, or approximately 25% below normal.
November Snowfall Came in Several Smaller Events Binghamton's November 2025 snowfall was spread across multiple dates rather than concentrated in one major storm.
The National Weather Service recorded 0.1 inches on November 10, followed by 0.7 inches on November 11 and 1.3 inches on November 12.
Another 1.4 inches fell November 16.
The month's largest daily snowfall occurred November 28, when 1.6 inches accumulated.
Altogether, Binghamton experienced five days with at least 0.1 inches of measurable snowfall.
Although several dates produced accumulating snow, none delivered a particularly large daily total.
The National Weather Service report indicates no daily snowfall records were broken or tied during November 2025.
Dry Conditions Were Another Important Part of the Story Snowfall was not the only weather measurement that finished below normal.
Binghamton recorded 1.97 inches of total precipitation during November, compared with a historical normal of 3.11 inches.
That represents a precipitation deficit of 1.14 inches, making November 2025 the 20th driest November in the station's 75 year period of record, according to the NWS summary.
The relatively limited precipitation helps explain why snowfall totals remained modest, although temperature and precipitation type also influence how much snow accumulates.
Binghamton's average temperature for November 2025 was 37.0 degrees, approximately 0.9 degrees below normal.
The month's average high was 43.5 degrees, while the average low was 30.6 degrees.
Temperatures dropped as low as 22 degrees, demonstrating that cold conditions occurred even though snowfall remained below average.
What November 2025 Means for 2026 The combination of below normal temperatures, limited precipitation and below normal snowfall provides an important reminder for Southern Tier residents.
Cold weather alone does not guarantee significant snowfall.
For accumulating snow to develop, incoming weather systems must provide sufficient moisture while atmospheric temperatures support frozen precipitation.
November 2025 showed that even a slightly colder than normal month can produce less snow than usual when precipitation is limited.
However, these historical observations cannot predict whether November 2026 will be snowier, drier or warmer.
Residents across Binghamton, Broome County and surrounding Southern Tier communities should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts as November approaches.
The timing of colder air and precipitation will determine whether early season storms produce rain, snow or a mixture.
As November 2026 approaches, will Binghamton experience another relatively quiet start to the snow season, or could more substantial snowfall arrive before December?
