BINGHAMTON, NY – Gray skies and widespread showers will bring a wet finish to the weekend across New York's Southern Tier on Sunday, Oct. 11. Rain becomes increasingly likely during the afternoon, potentially affecting travel and outdoor activities throughout the Binghamton area.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, precipitation chances reach 100% Sunday, with showers expected mainly after 11 a.m. Temperatures should reach approximately 61 degrees, accompanied by southeast winds of 6 to 8 mph.
The rain could create slick pavement and reduced visibility along Interstate 81, Route 17 and other busy roads throughout Broome County.
Forecasters expect rainfall amounts between one half and three quarters of an inch Sunday, making it the wettest period indicated in the local forecast.
Conditions remain unsettled Sunday night, with a 90% precipitation chance and thunderstorms possible before midnight. Showers and isolated thunderstorms could continue into early Monday.
Overnight temperatures remain relatively mild, falling near 54 degrees.
Monday, Oct. 12, brings improving conditions for Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day. Mostly cloudy skies remain, but temperatures rise to approximately 68 degrees.
Tuesday, Oct. 13, introduces another opportunity for unsettled weather. Showers are possible, with thunderstorms potentially developing after 2 p.m.
The precipitation chance reaches 50% Tuesday before increasing to 70% Tuesday night. Temperatures climb near 72 degrees, making Tuesday the warmest day of the forecast period.
Wednesday brings mostly cloudy skies and cooler temperatures near 66 degrees.
Five Day Outlook: Thursday turns mostly sunny with a high near 62 degrees. Friday brings a 50% chance of showers and temperatures around 61. Saturday cools further, reaching approximately 54 degrees with a 30% rain chance.
