Ashland, NY – A 63 year old man was killed and two women were injured in a violent three vehicle crash Tuesday afternoon, October 13, along State Route 14 in Chemung County. The collision involved a rear end impact, a second crash with an oncoming Jeep and a rollover that left one driver hospitalized.
According to the Chemung County Sheriff 's Office, deputies responded to the intersection of Route 14 and Merriam Road in the town of Ashland at approximately 4:13 p.m.
Rear End Collision Leads to Fatal Crash Investigators said Robert J. Shock, 63, was traveling south in a gray 2019 Nissan Rogue and slowing to turn left onto Merriam Road, where he lived.
A red Ford Mustang driven by Stephanie L. Gallagher, 37, of Chemung, struck Shock's vehicle from behind for reasons still under investigation.
The impact pushed Shock's Nissan into the northbound lane, where a Jeep Wrangler driven by Morgan Wright, 30, of Gillett, Pennsylvania, struck the passenger side.
The collision sent Shock's vehicle across the intersection, where it struck a street sign before stopping off the roadway.
Wright's Jeep overturned and came to rest on its roof.
One Driver Killed, Two Others Injured Firefighters from Wellsburg and Pine City extricated Shock from his vehicle.
He was transported to Arnot Ogden Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.
Wright was removed from the overturned Jeep and transported to Robert Packer Hospital, where she remained hospitalized at the time of the Sheriff's Office announcement.
Gallagher was taken to a hospital in Troy, Pennsylvania, where authorities determined she had suffered a fractured foot. She was subsequently released.
Investigation Continues, Charges Pending The Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigation Division, Accident Reconstruction Team and Drone Team responded to investigate the collision.
Multiple fire departments, emergency medical personnel, New York State Police and transportation officials assisted.
Authorities said the investigation remains ongoing and charges are pending. No charges were specified in the October 14 release.
