Albany, NY – Residents across New York's Capital Region should prepare for a chilly start to the weekend, with overnight temperatures expected to fall near or slightly below freezing Friday night into Saturday morning, October 24. Despite the cold mornings, sunshine will dominate the forecast, with afternoon temperatures recovering into the upper 50s and lower 60s by Sunday.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, temperatures are expected to fall to approximately 31 degrees Friday night before reaching 57 degrees Saturday afternoon. The forecast suggests a noticeable difference between daytime warmth and overnight cold across Albany, Rensselaer County and surrounding Capital Region communities.
The coldest forecast temperatures could create conditions favorable for frost or localized freezing in susceptible areas, particularly where temperatures fall to 32 degrees or lower. However, the supplied forecast does not establish that a frost advisory or freeze warning has been issued.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants may want to monitor overnight temperatures closely, especially heading into Saturday morning.

What Happens After the Weekend? The National Weather Service forecast indicates warmer conditions Monday, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 64 degrees. Monday night temperatures should remain around 42 degrees before Tuesday brings partly sunny skies and highs near 56 degrees.
Looking farther ahead, the Climate Prediction Center's October 28 through November 3 outlook favors above normal temperatures across much of New York, including the Capital Region.
The precipitation outlook places eastern New York near the boundary between near normal precipitation and an area favoring above normal precipitation farther south. It does not establish a specific rainfall event for Albany.
For residents across Albany and Rensselaer counties, the immediate concern is the approaching stretch of chilly overnight temperatures.
Those planning early morning activities, outdoor gatherings or weekend travel should prepare for cold starts despite generally sunny afternoon conditions.
The forecast offers a dry weekend, but Friday and Saturday nights will be worth watching as temperatures approach the freezing mark.
