Albany, NY – A strong cold front will bring gusty winds and cooler temperatures to eastern New York Monday, Oct. 5, followed by potential frost in the upper Hudson Valley.
The National Weather Service in Albany said Sunday that the cold front will cross the region Monday morning. Wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph are expected, strong enough to blow around unsecured outdoor objects.
The NWS forecast shows gusts around 30 mph in several communities Monday, including Amsterdam, Bennington and Kingston. Winds should diminish substantially Monday night and remain lighter Tuesday.
Temperatures will also turn cooler behind the front. Albany is forecast to reach 61 degrees Monday before falling to around 47 Monday night. Tuesday's high is forecast near 59, followed by a low around 39.
Colder conditions are expected north of Albany and in higher terrain. Glens Falls could fall to around 38 degrees Tuesday morning, while Gloversville is forecast near 36. Piseco could drop to around 30 degrees early Tuesday.
The NWS said frost could develop in the upper Hudson River Valley Monday and/or Tuesday night in locations where the growing season remains active. The timing and extent remain uncertain, so residents should monitor updated forecasts and any frost related advisories.
Temperatures begin recovering Wednesday, with forecast highs generally returning to the 60s across much of the region.
For eastern New York, Monday's 25 to 35 mph wind gusts are the first concern, followed by colder nighttime temperatures and the potential for frost in the upper Hudson Valley.
