ALBANY, NY – Steady showers will spread across New York's Capital Region Sunday, Oct. 11, before intensifying overnight. Rain chances reach 100% Sunday night, potentially creating wet roads and slower travel into early Monday.
According to the National Weather Service forecast for Rensselaer, showers become likely after 5 p.m. Sunday, with a 60% precipitation chance. Rainfall amounts between one tenth and one quarter inch are expected during the day.
The heavier rainfall arrives Sunday night, when forecasters expect an additional one half to three quarters of an inch. Showers should continue mainly before 3 a.m. Monday.
Combined rainfall could approach 1 inch in some locations, increasing concerns about standing water on poorly drained roads.
Drivers traveling through Albany, Rensselaer and surrounding Capital Region communities should allow additional time during heavier showers.
Sunday temperatures reach approximately 62 degrees, with south winds of 3 to 7 mph. Overnight lows remain relatively mild near 52 degrees.
Monday, Oct. 12, brings improving conditions for Columbus Day and Indigenous Peoples' Day activities. Skies become partly sunny, with temperatures climbing near 69 degrees.
However, the break in rainfall may prove temporary.
Tuesday, Oct. 13, brings another opportunity for showers, with thunderstorms possible after 2 p.m. Rain chances reach 50% during the day as temperatures rise to 66 degrees.
Tuesday night presents another significant concern, with a 90% precipitation chance and showers expected mainly between 8 p.m. and 2 a.m. Wednesday.
Wednesday remains mostly cloudy, with a 30% morning shower chance and temperatures near 65 degrees.
Five Day Outlook: Thursday turns mostly sunny, reaching 60 degrees. Friday brings a 50% shower chance and highs near 59. Saturday remains partly sunny, with temperatures around 56 degrees and a 30% rain chance.
