Albany, NY – Sunshine and milder temperatures are returning to much of upstate and eastern New York on Sunday, Oct. 18, offering residents a pleasant autumn afternoon after Saturday's cooler conditions. Afternoon highs will generally reach the 50s, with some communities climbing into the lower 60s.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, mostly sunny skies are expected Sunday, accompanied by noticeably lighter winds and temperatures warmer than Saturday. The improvement will extend across the Capital Region, Mohawk Valley, Adirondacks, Catskills and Hudson Valley.
Sunday temperatures vary across the region
Albany is forecast to reach approximately 58 degrees, while nearby Cobleskill could also reach 58. Glens Falls is expected near 57 degrees, with Herkimer climbing to 59.
Farther north, temperatures will remain cooler across the Adirondacks. Old Forge is forecast near 51 degrees, while Newcomb could reach 54.
The Hudson Valley will experience slightly milder conditions, with Poughkeepsie approaching 59 degrees and Hunter reaching approximately 55.
Central New York communities could see some of the region's warmest afternoon temperatures. Syracuse is forecast near 60 degrees, while Ithaca could reach 62.
Lighter winds bring a more comfortable afternoon
One of Sunday's more noticeable changes will be the reduction in wind compared with Saturday.
The combination of sunshine and lighter winds should make outdoor activities more comfortable, particularly for residents visiting parks, attending fall events or enjoying autumn foliage.
Looking ahead toward Halloween
The broader October weather pattern remains worth monitoring as Halloween approaches Saturday, Oct. 31.
NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlook for Oct. 25 31 favors above normal temperatures across much of eastern New York, although this does not guarantee warm conditions on Halloween itself.
The same outlook indicates below normal precipitation is favored across portions of the Northeast, offering an early encouraging signal for outdoor plans.
However, specific Halloween temperatures and rain chances remain uncertain and will become clearer as the date approaches.
