Albany, NY – A mild Thursday afternoon across eastern and east central New York will give way to increasing rain chances tonight as a cold front moves through the region. Some communities north and west of Albany could see precipitation probabilities climb as high as 80%, while other locations remain largely dry.
According to the National Weather Service in Albany, mostly sunny skies and above average warmth are expected Thursday, October 29, before a few light rain showers develop during the evening and overnight hours.
Temperatures Approach 70 Before Showers Arrive
Afternoon temperatures across the region will generally reach the 60s, with some communities approaching or reaching 70 degrees.
Amsterdam and Cobleskill are forecast to reach around 70 degrees, while Albany, Glens Falls and Saratoga Springs should experience highs in the upper 60s.
The approaching cold front will bring increasing clouds and scattered showers, with the greatest precipitation chances concentrated across the Adirondacks and areas west of Albany.
Near Old Forge, rain probabilities rise to approximately 55% by 8 p.m., reaching 70% around 9 p.m. and 80% by 11 p.m.
Piseco could also experience a significant increase in rain chances, reaching 70% during the late evening.
Rain Chances Vary Across Upstate New York
Conditions will be considerably different farther south and east.
Albany's rain probability remains relatively low, generally between 5% and 15% through Thursday evening and early Friday.
Communities including Poughkeepsie, Kingston and Pittsfield are also expected to experience limited precipitation chances.
For motorists traveling through the Adirondacks Thursday night, scattered showers could create wet pavement and reduced visibility in some locations.
Residents attending evening activities should consider keeping a light rain jacket available, particularly north and west of the Capital Region.
Rain chances are expected to decrease Friday morning as the cold front moves through.
Residents should monitor updated National Weather Service forecasts for changes in the timing and location of showers.
