ALBANY, N.Y. — November is beginning near freezing in the Capital Region, but the cold start will quickly give way to much milder weather, with temperatures climbing into the upper 60s by Wednesday and Thursday before rain arrives late in the week.
Albany International Airport was reporting 31 degrees early Sunday, Nov. 1 . The National Weather Service forecast for the Albany area calls for sunshine and a high near 60 Sunday, followed by 64 Monday, 65 Tuesday and approximately 69 Wednesday and Thursday .
Near 70° by Wednesday Sunday remains sunny after the chilly morning, with temperatures dropping back to around 35 Sunday night.
Monday stays mostly sunny with a high near 64, while Tuesday reaches about 65 under partly sunny skies. Overnight lows trend steadily milder, rising from 42 Monday night to 47 Tuesday night and around 52 Wednesday night.
Wednesday becomes one of the warmest days in the current forecast, with mostly sunny skies and a high near 69.
That creates a substantial early November contrast: Albany moves from 31 degrees early Sunday to nearly 70 degrees by Wednesday , a difference approaching 40 degrees between the coldest morning and warmest afternoon forecast.
Rain Returns Nov. 5–7 The pattern changes Thursday.
The Weather Service lists a 50% chance of rain after 1 p.m. Thursday with a high still near 69. Rain becomes likely Thursday night, with precipitation chances increasing to 60% and a low around 55.
Friday remains wet with another 60% chance of rain and a high near 66. Rain chances hold at 60% Friday night before dropping to 50% Saturday, when temperatures cool to around 61.
The rain brings a cooler late week turn, but it does not erase the broader November warmth signal.
November Warmth Remains Favored NOAA's November temperature outlook favors above normal temperatures across New York and the Northeast, while the Climate Prediction Center's separate Nov. 8–14 outlook continues to favor above normal temperatures across the region.
The Northeast framework specifically identifies November warmth as the primary story and warns against letting a cold opening to Nov. 1–3 overshadow the broader pattern.
That does not mean Albany will stay near 70 every day through Nov. 14. Individual cold fronts, freezing nights and even early season snow events remain possible. The outlook describes the average temperature across the period, not exact daily conditions.
For now, though, the first week trend is striking: 31 early Sunday, then highs of 60, 64, 65 and 69 by Wednesday.
It remains too early for a specific Thanksgiving Day forecast on Nov. 26, but the warm first half of November pattern is worth watching as New York moves closer to Thanksgiving and holiday travel season.
When do you expect Albany to get its first real taste of winter?
