ALBANY, NY — November is approaching with a sharp contrast between sunny afternoons and chilly overnight temperatures across New York's Capital Region. Albany residents could see temperatures fall into the lower and middle 30s several nights this week, raising concerns for sensitive outdoor plants before NOAA's Oct. 26–Nov. 1 extended weather outlook begins.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the eight to 14 day outlook issued Oct. 18 covers Oct. 26 through Nov. 1, 2026. The outlook evaluates whether average temperatures and precipitation are favored to finish above, near or below normal. The specific temperature and precipitation probabilities for New York have not yet been verified from the corresponding CPC maps.
Albany Faces Several Cold Nights Before November The National Weather Service's Albany office forecasts a stretch of mostly sunny weather, with daytime temperatures generally reaching the upper 50s and lower 60s.
Monday, Oct. 19, is expected to reach approximately 63 degrees after patchy morning fog clears. Overnight temperatures are forecast to fall to around 39 degrees.
Tuesday should remain mostly sunny, with a high near 62 degrees. North winds could gust to 21 mph before temperatures drop to approximately 36 degrees Tuesday night.
Wednesday brings another sunny afternoon, with a high near 60 degrees, followed by an overnight low around 35 degrees.
Thursday is forecast to reach 62 degrees, with temperatures falling to around 38 degrees overnight.
The colder mornings could be especially noticeable for commuters, students and residents working outdoors.
Temperatures Approach Freezing by the Weekend The forecast becomes more concerning for sensitive vegetation heading into the weekend.
Friday's high is expected to reach approximately 57 degrees before temperatures fall to around 33 degrees overnight.
Saturday is forecast to reach 59 degrees, followed by another chilly night near 34 degrees.
These temperatures are close to freezing, although the supplied forecast does not establish a formal frost advisory or freeze warning for Albany.
Frost can develop under favorable conditions even when standard air temperatures remain slightly above 32 degrees. Residents with tender plants may want to monitor updated local forecasts.
Sunday, Oct. 25, could bring a modest daytime recovery, with sunshine and a high near 62 degrees.
What the November Outlook Means for New York Albany's location in eastern New York makes the approaching seasonal transition particularly important.
Conditions across the Hudson Valley, Adirondacks and western New York can vary considerably because of differences in elevation, geography and proximity to the Great Lakes.
The approaching Oct. 26–Nov. 1 outlook will help establish whether New York is favored to experience unusually mild conditions, a colder pattern or temperatures closer to seasonal averages.
However, the available Albany forecast ends Oct. 25. Its daytime highs and overnight lows cannot establish what will happen during the following seven days.
The CPC precipitation outlook must also be examined separately before drawing conclusions about rainfall or other precipitation during the transition into November.
For residents across the Capital Region, the immediate concern is the sequence of chilly nights, particularly Friday and Saturday, when temperatures are forecast to approach freezing.
Updated National Weather Service forecasts should provide clearer guidance about potential frost and the temperature pattern heading into November.
