Albuquerque, NM – A changing weather pattern will bring showers, isolated thunderstorms and possible light mountain snow to portions of New Mexico beginning Friday afternoon, Nov. 6, with unsettled conditions continuing into Saturday before a warmer, drier stretch arrives.
According to the National Weather Service in Albuquerque, showers will initially develop across western New Mexico Friday afternoon before spreading into central and southern portions of the state during the evening.
Rain and isolated thunderstorms are possible through Saturday.
Forecasters expect scattered showers across western, central and southern New Mexico through Saturday afternoon, with lingering precipitation gradually ending Saturday evening.
Most communities receiving rainfall should see less than 0.25 inches, although localized amounts could approach 0.50 inches where heavier showers develop.
The greatest rainfall potential includes portions of western New Mexico near Gallup, where precipitation chances reach 80% Friday.
Roswell has a 60% chance of precipitation Friday, while Albuquerque's chance is approximately 40%.
Isolated thunderstorms are possible, particularly across western New Mexico, although limited atmospheric instability should keep most precipitation in the form of ordinary rain showers.
Higher elevations could see light snow.
The National Weather Service says elevations above approximately 8,500 to 9,500 feet could experience light snow accumulations as colder air accompanies the system.
Travelers heading into mountainous areas should monitor changing conditions, especially where temperatures approach freezing.
Afternoon temperatures will remain near or slightly below seasonal averages through the weekend.
Albuquerque is forecast to reach 61 degrees Friday, 62 Saturday and 63 Sunday.
Cooler mountain communities, including Chama and Angel Fire, will see highs mainly in the upper 40s to middle 50s.
Warmer, drier weather returns next week.
By Sunday, precipitation chances drop to near zero across most of the region as a gradual warming trend begins.
Temperatures should return to near or slightly above normal through much of next week.
