Williamstown, NJ – Teenagers across South Jersey interested in law enforcement will have an opportunity later this month to learn what it takes to become a New Jersey State Police trooper.
According to the New Jersey State Police, Troop A is inviting young men and women ages 14 to 17 from the southern region of the state to an Explorer Program informational event Tuesday, October 27, from 7 to 9 p.m.
The event will take place at Buena Headquarters, located at 1045 Route 54 in Williamstown, Gloucester County, within the greater Philadelphia metropolitan region.
The Explorer Program introduces young people to potential careers in law enforcement through hands on educational activities, structured training and interaction with state police personnel.
Participants can learn about criminal investigations, police procedures, traffic enforcement, crime scene investigations and other responsibilities associated with law enforcement.
The program also emphasizes leadership, teamwork, discipline and community service, providing participants with opportunities to develop skills that extend beyond policing.
According to the agency's recruiting website, Explorers participate in regular meetings and educational activities throughout the year. Training topics include police ethics, criminal law, search procedures, firearms safety and emergency response.
The upcoming Troop A event is intended to give prospective participants a closer look at the program and help families understand what involvement may include.
The opportunity is specifically directed toward teenagers living in southern New Jersey who are considering careers in public safety or want to explore the law enforcement profession.
