Mount Holly, NJ – Freeze warnings remain in effect across portions of Pennsylvania and New Jersey early Sunday, October 18, with temperatures expected to fall as low as 29 degrees before 9 a.m. EDT, threatening crops, sensitive vegetation and exposed outdoor plumbing.
According to the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, New Jersey, the warnings cover 13 counties and designated county areas across eastern Pennsylvania and northern and western New Jersey.
The coldest temperatures, potentially reaching 29 degrees, are forecast for Sussex County, New Jersey, and Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania. Communities including Newton, Jim Thorpe and Stroudsburg are among those affected.
A second warning covers Morris, Warren and Hunterdon counties in New Jersey, along with Berks, Lehigh, Northampton, western Chester, western Montgomery and upper Bucks counties in Pennsylvania.
Temperatures in those areas could fall to approximately 32 degrees, creating frost and freezing conditions.
Affected communities include Allentown, Bethlehem, Easton, Reading, Pottstown, Collegeville, Perkasie, Morristown, Flemington and Washington.
The National Weather Service warns that freezing temperatures could kill tender plants and damage crops, particularly vegetation left unprotected overnight.
Residents are encouraged to bring sensitive potted plants indoors or cover vulnerable outdoor vegetation to reduce potential damage.
Homeowners should also consider protecting exposed outdoor plumbing that could be vulnerable to freezing conditions.
The warnings extend across portions of the Lehigh Valley, the Poconos and communities north and west of Philadelphia, affecting both residential neighborhoods and agricultural areas.
Both freeze warnings remain in effect until 9 a.m. EDT Sunday, October 18.
