Mount Holly, NJ – Residents across southern New Jersey, southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware should prepare for a wet Friday, November 6, as a widespread rain system moves through the region, potentially producing up to 3 inches of rainfall in some coastal communities before conditions improve Friday night.
According to the National Weather Service in Philadelphia/Mount Holly, the bulk of the rainfall was expected to develop overnight into Friday morning, with periods of steady rain continuing through much of the day.
The heaviest rainfall is forecast southeast of Interstate 95, particularly across coastal New Jersey, where localized totals could approach 3 inches.
Areas around Atlantic City could receive 2 to 3 inches, while communities near Cape May and portions of the Jersey Shore may see approximately 1.5 to 2 inches.
Farther inland, rainfall amounts are expected to decrease.
Philadelphia and Trenton are forecast to receive approximately 0.5 to 1 inch, while portions of central New Jersey could see totals ranging from 0.25 to 0.5 inches.
Across Delaware, communities near Dover could receive 1 to 1.5 inches, with higher totals possible closer to the southern coastline.
The National Weather Service also indicates that a few thunderstorms could develop, bringing occasional rumbles of thunder during the rain event.
Periods of heavier rainfall may create ponding on roads, reduced visibility and slower travel conditions, particularly along coastal highways and low lying roadways.
Drivers traveling along Interstate 95, the Garden State Parkway and other major routes should remain alert for changing conditions throughout Friday.
Rain is expected to gradually taper off late Friday afternoon and into Friday night as the system moves away.
Behind the departing rainfall, seasonably cooler temperatures are expected to settle across the region this weekend.
Residents should continue monitoring updated forecasts and any weather advisories issued by the National Weather Service.
