New Hampshire – State officials are renewing their call for the public to come forward with information regarding the long unsolved homicide of Russell Bean. Bean was last seen on September 15, 1978, and his remains were later discovered in March of 1988 in the town of Marlow. An autopsy conducted after the discovery revealed that the victim had died as a result of blunt force trauma to the head.
In 1988, law enforcement obtained a search warrant that led them to the property of Robert Chambers, located on Newell Pond Road in Marlow. Chambers, who served as a part time police chief in Marlow and Gilsum at the time, was subsequently arrested for the murder of Bean. However, despite the arrest, Chambers was never indicted or tried on the charge, leaving the investigation into the death of Russell Bean open for nearly four decades.
The New Hampshire State Police Cold Case Unit is now urging anyone who may have relevant information to contact them. Tips can be submitted anonymously through an online form at https://business.nh.gov/ColdCaseTips/Tip.aspx?Victim=Russell%20Bean or by sending an email directly to the unit at coldcaseunit@dos.nh.gov. Officials emphasize that any detail, no matter how small it may seem, could be vital to bringing closure to the victim's family.
