MANCHESTER, NH — Residents across Manchester and portions of southern New Hampshire should prepare for freezing overnight temperatures heading into the weekend, with lows expected to fall near 29 degrees Friday night, October 23, and approximately 30 degrees Saturday night. The colder conditions follow relatively mild afternoons and could affect sensitive outdoor plants, gardens and residents spending extended periods outside.
According to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, Manchester will experience mostly sunny skies Thursday with a high near 61 degrees before temperatures fall to approximately 33 degrees overnight. Friday's high will reach only 54 degrees, followed by the week's coldest forecast temperature near 29 degrees Friday night.
Freezing Temperatures Expected Friday and Saturday Nights The approaching cold snap will bring Manchester below the 32 degree freezing threshold during two consecutive nights.
Temperatures near 29 degrees Friday night could damage or kill sensitive vegetation, particularly plants that have not been protected from freezing conditions.
Residents with outdoor gardens, potted plants or temperature sensitive equipment may want to take precautions before Friday evening.
Saturday night will remain cold, with temperatures expected to drop near 30 degrees despite sunny conditions during the afternoon.
Although freezing temperatures are forecast, the supplied National Weather Service information does not establish whether a Frost Advisory or Freeze Warning has been issued for Manchester.

Warmer Weather Expected After the Cold Weekend The forecast indicates a noticeable recovery Sunday, when afternoon temperatures could reach approximately 65 degrees, followed by another high near 66 degrees Monday.
That rebound would bring daytime conditions back into the middle 60s after Friday's cooler afternoon.
Looking farther ahead, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center eight to 14 day outlook, issued October 20, places much of southern New Hampshire within an area favoring above normal temperatures from October 28 through November 3.
The precipitation outlook indicates near normal precipitation across southern New Hampshire during the same period.
These longer range outlooks describe general temperature and precipitation trends rather than specific daily forecasts.
For Manchester residents, the most immediate concern remains the potential for freezing temperatures Friday and Saturday nights.
Those planning outdoor activities should prepare for significant differences between afternoon warmth and overnight cold, particularly during the early morning hours.
Residents should continue monitoring National Weather Service updates for any frost or freeze related alerts as temperatures approach the freezing mark.
