MANCHESTER, NH – New Hampshire is heading into November with a sharp temperature swing, from a forecast low of 26 degrees in Manchester Saturday night to afternoon highs near 68 degrees early next week. Farther ahead, NOAA's extended outlooks are raising questions about rain, snow and changing conditions as Thanksgiving holiday travel approaches.
The contrast comes as New Hampshire moves deeper into the season when freezing nights become increasingly common, even as longer range forecasts continue to favor warmer than normal conditions.
Manchester Faces 26 Degree Freeze Before Temperatures Reach 68 According to the National Weather Service, Manchester will see sunshine and a high near 52 degrees Saturday, followed by clear skies and a low around 26 Saturday night.
Temperatures rebound Sunday, reaching 60 degrees, before climbing to 68 Monday. Tuesday brings partly sunny skies and a high near 66, followed by another 68 degree afternoon Wednesday.
The rapid warmup will follow one of the colder nights in the immediate forecast, with temperatures dropping below freezing Saturday night before recovering significantly during the opening days of November.
Residents will also turn clocks back one hour at 2 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, bringing earlier sunsets and more evening travel after dark.
NOAA Favors November Warmth, but Precipitation Outlook Shifts NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlooks issued Friday, Oct. 30, favor above normal temperatures across New Hampshire during Nov. 5 9 and Nov. 7 13.
The Nov. 14 27 temperature outlook also favors above normal conditions across the state, suggesting that milder than average weather remains a possibility into the Thanksgiving holiday period.
Precipitation probabilities are less consistent.
Above normal precipitation is favored across New Hampshire during Nov. 5 9. The Nov. 7 13 outlook shows no clear precipitation preference across much of the state.
By Nov. 14 27, NOAA's precipitation outlook places much of New Hampshire outside the areas where wetter or drier than normal conditions are favored.
That means the longer range guidance does not currently establish a strong precipitation signal for Manchester during Thanksgiving week.
Thanksgiving Holiday Travel: Could New Hampshire See Rain or Snow? Thanksgiving falls Thursday, Nov. 26, within NOAA's latest Week 3 4 outlook period.
Although above normal temperatures are favored, that does not rule out individual freezing nights, colder weather systems or snowfall during the second half of November.
However, the outlook does not identify a Thanksgiving snowstorm, rainfall totals or specific holiday travel impacts.
NOAA's extended products measure broad temperature and precipitation probabilities rather than forecasting individual weather events weeks in advance.
Closer to home, rain chances increase late next week. Manchester has a 30% chance of showers Thursday, followed by a 60% chance Thursday night and Friday.
For New Hampshire residents planning Thanksgiving travel, the next development to watch will be whether colder air and a more organized precipitation signal emerge as the holiday moves into shorter range forecasts.
