MANCHESTER, NH – Residents across Manchester and surrounding Hillsborough County communities should prepare for a sharp weekend cooldown as temperatures tumble from a mild 68 degrees Friday to a below freezing low near 27 degrees Saturday night.
According to the National Weather Service, Friday will begin mostly cloudy before skies gradually clear, allowing temperatures to climb to approximately 68 degrees. Southwest winds of 5 to 10 mph will shift northwest at 10 to 15 mph during the afternoon, with gusts potentially reaching 30 mph.
The changing wind direction will accompany a significant drop in temperatures heading into the weekend.
Saturday Night Brings Freezing Temperatures
Friday night will turn noticeably colder, with mostly clear skies and temperatures falling to around 36 degrees. Northwest winds near 10 mph could produce gusts reaching 20 mph.
Saturday will remain sunny, but afternoon highs will reach only 55 degrees, approximately 13 degrees cooler than Friday.
The biggest change arrives Saturday night, when clear skies and calm winds accompany temperatures dropping to approximately 27 degrees.
That represents a 41 degree difference between Friday's afternoon high and Saturday night's forecast low.
Temperatures this cold could allow frost or freezing conditions to develop, potentially affecting sensitive outdoor plants and vegetation.
Residents with remaining garden plants should consider protective measures before Saturday evening.
Temperatures Rebound Sunday
The coldest conditions are expected to be short lived.
Sunday will bring sunshine and a high near 61 degrees, followed by another chilly night with temperatures around 36 degrees.
Monday should warm considerably, reaching approximately 68 degrees under mostly sunny skies.
Tuesday will remain partly sunny with highs near 64 degrees, while Wednesday is expected to reach around 62 degrees.
A 40% chance of showers returns Thursday.
For Manchester and nearby southern New Hampshire communities, Saturday night's below freezing temperatures are the primary weather concern heading into the weekend.
