Scottsbluff, NE – Residents across Scottsbluff and Nebraska's western Panhandle are preparing for a dramatic temperature swing as Friday's unusually warm conditions give way to a sharp cooldown Saturday, Oct. 24. Afternoon temperatures near 81 degrees Friday could plunge to around 55 degrees Saturday, marking a drop of approximately 25 degrees in just 24 hours.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, Wyoming, a cold front moving through western Nebraska Saturday morning will bring noticeably cooler temperatures and breezy northwest winds following an exceptionally warm Friday.
Friday, Oct. 23, is expected to be the warmest day of the seven day forecast, with temperatures reaching approximately 81 degrees in Scottsbluff.
A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms is forecast Friday evening as the approaching weather system begins influencing the region.
By Saturday, temperatures are expected to struggle to reach 55 degrees, creating a substantial change for residents heading outdoors or traveling across Scotts Bluff County.
Breezy northwest winds could make conditions feel even cooler as the front moves through.
The cooler pattern will continue Sunday, Oct. 25, when afternoon temperatures are forecast to reach only around 50 degrees.
Another upper level weather system is expected to move across the region Sunday and Monday, maintaining chances for rain showers through the beginning of the workweek.
Monday's high is forecast near 52 degrees before temperatures gradually recover.
By Tuesday, Oct. 27, Scottsbluff should see improving weather with mostly sunny skies and afternoon temperatures around 60 degrees.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to remain sunny, with highs near 61 and 62 degrees, respectively.
Those temperatures would bring the region closer to typical late October conditions following the weekend cooldown.
Residents planning outdoor activities Friday evening through Monday should prepare for rapidly changing temperatures and occasional showers.
Drivers should also remain alert for changing weather conditions during the Saturday morning frontal passage.
