Omaha, NE – After several mild November days, eastern Nebraska residents are facing a sharp temperature change this weekend, with morning lows expected to reach freezing in Omaha and drop into the upper 20s in some surrounding communities.
According to the National Weather Service office in Omaha/Valley, temperatures will steadily decline through the end of the week, bringing widespread frost potential and freezing conditions to parts of eastern Nebraska and southwestern Iowa by Saturday, Nov. 7.
In Omaha, Thursday morning temperatures are forecast near 42 degrees before falling to 37 degrees Friday and reaching 32 degrees Saturday morning.
Lincoln will experience a similar cooldown, with morning lows dropping from 40 degrees Thursday to 35 degrees Friday and 31 degrees Saturday.
Farther north, Norfolk could experience freezing temperatures sooner, with lows near 30 degrees both Friday and Saturday mornings.
Across the Missouri River in southwestern Iowa, Red Oak is forecast to reach 29 degrees Saturday morning, one of the coldest readings highlighted in the forecast.
Falls City, Nebraska, is expected to drop to 32 degrees Saturday after morning temperatures near 39 degrees Thursday and 38 degrees Friday.
The National Weather Service warns that frost may develop on grassy areas and elevated surfaces as temperatures approach freezing.
Residents are encouraged to bring sensitive potted plants indoors and disconnect outdoor garden hoses before the coldest temperatures arrive.
The colder conditions could also pose health concerns for vulnerable populations, particularly those spending extended periods outdoors during the early morning hours.
Drivers should remain aware of possible frost on exposed surfaces, although widespread hazardous road conditions have not been forecast in the agency's update.
Residents across the Omaha metropolitan area should prepare for the coldest morning of the period Saturday as the region transitions from mild autumn weather to freezing temperatures.
