Omaha, NE – A noticeable shift toward cooler temperatures and increasing rain chances will develop across the Omaha Council Bluffs metropolitan area by Monday, Oct. 26, ending a stretch of warm, mostly sunny autumn weather. Afternoon temperatures are expected to fall from approximately 80 degrees Friday to 68 degrees Monday, a 12 degree decline over three days. Showers could arrive during the afternoon, potentially affecting the evening commute along Interstate 80, Interstate 29 and other heavily traveled routes connecting eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha/Valley, the forecast for the Carter Lake area, immediately northeast of downtown Omaha, calls for a 40% chance of showers after 1 p.m. Monday. Mostly cloudy skies are expected, with east southeast winds around 6 mph. The forecast does not specify rainfall totals or indicate that severe thunderstorms are expected in the immediate Omaha Council Bluffs area.
Rain Chances Increase as Temperatures Fall Monday The approaching change follows several days of relatively warm weather. Friday, Oct. 23, will bring mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 80 degrees, accompanied by south southeast winds of 8 to 14 mph and gusts reaching 24 mph. Saturday remains warm, with mostly sunny conditions and a high around 78 degrees, although winds should become somewhat lighter.
By Sunday, Oct. 25, temperatures will fall to approximately 72 degrees under partly sunny skies. Light and variable winds are expected, followed by mostly cloudy conditions Sunday night and temperatures near 54 degrees. The gradual cooling will continue Monday, when increasing clouds and scattered showers could make outdoor conditions noticeably different from the preceding weekend.
Monday's 40% precipitation probability indicates a meaningful chance of measurable rainfall at the forecast location, but it does not mean rain will fall continuously or cover 40% of the metropolitan area. The National Weather Service places the primary daytime shower opportunity after 1 p.m., with additional showers possible Monday night, mainly before 1 a.m. Tuesday.
Travel Conditions Could Change Across the Metro Motorists traveling between Omaha and Council Bluffs should monitor updated forecasts before Monday afternoon and evening travel. Rain could create wet pavement and temporarily reduce visibility along Interstate 80, Interstate 29, Interstate 480 and Interstate 680 if showers develop along those corridors.
The forecast does not indicate widespread flooding, road closures or significant travel disruptions. However, the transition from several dry days to potentially wet conditions makes Monday's afternoon and evening periods worth monitoring, especially for commuters and residents planning outdoor work or recreational activities.
The changing temperatures will also be noticeable during the morning hours. Friday night's low is expected to remain near 60 degrees, while Saturday night drops to approximately 53 degrees. Sunday night settles near 54 degrees before Monday's cooler afternoon arrives.
Cooler Weather Continues Into Midweek Tuesday, Oct. 27, is expected to bring mostly cloudy skies and a high near 66 degrees, followed by a slight chance of showers after 1 a.m. Wednesday. Wednesday's forecast calls for additional shower chances, with partly improving skies and an afternoon high near 68 degrees.
Thursday, Oct. 29, remains unsettled, with another chance of showers and temperatures reaching approximately 64 degrees. The supplied forecast does not provide numerical precipitation probabilities for Wednesday or Thursday.
