Omaha, NE – A significant warming trend is heading toward eastern Nebraska and western Iowa this week, with temperatures expected to climb near 80 degrees by Thursday and Friday before breezy conditions raise potential fire weather concerns ahead of the weekend.
According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, temperatures will steadily increase throughout the workweek, bringing several days of dry weather before rain chances return Saturday, October 24.
Temperatures Could Reach 80 Degrees Thursday Sunday, October 18, will bring sunshine and afternoon temperatures in the 60s across the region.
Similar conditions are expected Monday and Tuesday, with highs remaining in the 60s and a mixture of sunshine and occasional clouds.
By Wednesday, October 21, temperatures will climb into the 70s as the warming trend strengthens.
Thursday, October 22, could bring afternoon highs near 80 degrees, marking one of the warmest days of the week.
Friday, October 23, is also expected to reach approximately 80 degrees, continuing the unusually warm late October pattern.
Friday Winds Could Raise Fire Concerns The National Weather Service indicates that Friday could become breezy, potentially increasing fire weather concerns across parts of the region.
Warm temperatures combined with wind can make outdoor burning more hazardous, particularly where vegetation is dry.
Residents should monitor local burn restrictions and use caution with activities that could produce sparks.
The forecast does not currently establish that a Red Flag Warning will be issued.
Rain Chances Return Saturday A change in the weather pattern is expected Saturday, October 24, when temperatures fall back into the 70s.
The National Weather Service indicates a 20% to 40% chance of precipitation Saturday, offering the possibility of rain following several dry days.
Overnight temperatures will also gradually increase throughout the week, rising from the 40s early in the forecast period into the 50s and near 60 degrees by the weekend.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts as Friday's fire weather potential and Saturday's rain chances become clearer.
