Omaha, NE – Residents across the Omaha metropolitan area can expect several more days of unusually mild feeling fall weather before rain chances return Saturday night, October 24, and a noticeable cooldown develops early next week. Temperatures are forecast to reach the upper 70s through Friday before falling into the 50s by Monday.
According to the National Weather Service Omaha/Valley office, highs near 78 degrees are expected Wednesday, Thursday and Friday around Omaha and neighboring Council Bluffs, Iowa. Saturday will remain warm, with temperatures near 77 degrees, before increasing cloud cover and the possibility of showers signal a change in the weather pattern.
The shift could affect weekend outdoor plans across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, particularly late Saturday and Sunday.
Warm Weather Continues Before Rain Returns An expanding upper level ridge across the central United States is supporting above normal warmth heading into the weekend.
For the Omaha area, the immediate forecast favors mostly sunny skies and temperatures in the upper 70s, with overnight lows gradually climbing from the lower 50s into the lower 60s.
However, the forecast begins changing Saturday night as a slight chance of showers develops around midnight.
Rain chances continue Sunday and become more widespread Monday, when the National Weather Service forecasts showers likely.
Five Day Omaha Weather Outlook Wednesday 10/21: Partly sunny skies will gradually become sunny, with afternoon temperatures reaching approximately 78 degrees. South winds will remain around 3 to 5 mph. Wednesday night will be mostly clear, with temperatures falling to around 52 degrees and calm winds.
Thursday 10/22: Sunny skies are expected, with another high near 78 degrees. Calm winds will become southerly at 5 to 7 mph during the afternoon. Thursday night will remain mostly clear, with lows around 57 degrees and southeast winds of 5 to 7 mph.
Friday 10/23: Mostly sunny conditions continue, with temperatures reaching approximately 78 degrees. South winds will increase to 9 to 15 mph, with gusts potentially reaching 25 mph. Friday night will become mostly cloudy, with lows near 61 degrees and gusts up to 23 mph.
Saturday 10/24: Partly sunny skies are expected, with temperatures reaching approximately 77 degrees. South winds around 10 mph could gust to 18 mph. Saturday night will become mostly cloudy, with a slight chance of showers developing around midnight and temperatures falling to approximately 54 degrees.
Sunday 10/25: A chance of showers develops mainly after 1 p.m., with mostly cloudy skies and a high near 65 degrees. North northeast winds around 5 mph are expected. Sunday night will remain mostly cloudy, with another chance of showers and temperatures falling to approximately 49 degrees.
Cooler Conditions Arrive Monday The temperature change becomes more noticeable Monday, October 26, when showers are considered likely and afternoon highs are expected to reach only about 58 degrees.
That represents a drop of approximately 20 degrees compared with the 78 degree highs forecast earlier in the week.
Tuesday, October 27, is expected to bring partly sunny skies, a slight chance of afternoon showers and highs near 59 degrees.
Looking further ahead, NOAA's Climate Prediction Center outlook for October 28 through November 3 favors above normal temperatures across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa, with precipitation probabilities leaning above normal.
That outlook does not establish specific rainfall totals or guarantee rain on individual days.
Residents planning weekend activities should monitor updated forecasts, particularly for Saturday night through Monday, as the warm, dry pattern gives way to cooler temperatures and increasing shower chances.
