HASTINGS, NE — Central Nebraska is heading toward November after a notable late October warmup, with Hastings expected to climb from the 60s into the middle 70s before showers return this weekend. Whether the milder conditions continue into November remains an important question for residents across the region.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, its eight to 14 day outlook issued Oct. 18 covers Oct. 26–Nov. 1, 2026. The outlook assesses the likelihood of above normal, near normal or below normal average temperatures and precipitation totals. Nebraska's specific probability categories from the accompanying maps have not yet been verified for this report.
Hastings Warms Into the Middle 70s The National Weather Service forecast for Hastings shows mostly sunny skies Monday, Oct. 19, with an afternoon high near 66 degrees.
Temperatures are expected to rise to approximately 69 degrees Tuesday, followed by 73 degrees Wednesday and 75 degrees Thursday.
That progression represents a 9 degree increase in forecast afternoon highs between Monday and Thursday.
For residents across Hastings and Adams County, the warming trend provides several days of favorable conditions for outdoor work, fall cleanup and other activities.
Tuesday could also bring southerly wind gusts reaching 20 mph, according to the local forecast.
Overnight temperatures are expected to rise as well, from around 45 degrees Monday night to 52 Tuesday night, 54 Wednesday night and 59 Thursday night.
These warmer evenings could offer a noticeable contrast to the chilly mornings common during Nebraska's autumn transition.
Rain Chances Increase Before the Weekend The weather pattern becomes less settled heading into Friday and Saturday.
Friday, Oct. 23, is expected to remain partly sunny with a high near 74 degrees.
However, the National Weather Service forecasts a 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms Friday night, with temperatures falling to approximately 58 degrees.
Saturday brings a 50% chance of showers and a high near 68 degrees.
Rain chances decrease to 30% Saturday night, with a low around 49 degrees.
By Sunday, Oct. 25, mostly sunny skies are expected to return, although temperatures could be noticeably cooler, reaching only about 64 degrees.
The forecast does not establish rainfall totals or indicate that severe thunderstorms are expected.
What Nebraska's November Outlook Could Mean The late week temperature changes highlight how quickly conditions can fluctuate across central Nebraska during autumn.
Hastings sits in south central Nebraska, where changing winds and passing weather systems can produce considerable differences between daytime and nighttime temperatures.
Other Nebraska communities, including Grand Island, Kearney, Lincoln and Omaha, may experience different local conditions depending on the evolution of the regional weather pattern.
The Climate Prediction Center's Oct. 26–Nov. 1 maps are necessary to determine whether above normal temperatures are favored statewide or whether the outlook varies between western, central and eastern Nebraska.
The separate precipitation outlook is equally important because a warmer than normal pattern would not necessarily mean dry conditions.
For now, the confirmed local forecast points toward a warm middle of the week, increasing rain chances Friday night and Saturday, and cooler weather Sunday.
Updated forecasts will provide greater clarity about whether Nebraska's late October warmth continues into the opening days of November.
Would you welcome more 70 degree afternoons in Nebraska as November approaches, or are you ready for colder fall weather?
