Hastings, NE – Three daily temperature records have been broken across central Nebraska in just three days, as unusually warm overnight conditions pushed temperatures above long standing marks in Hastings and Grand Island between October 30 and November 1.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, two new daily record warm minimum temperatures were established at Hastings Municipal Airport, while a third record was set at Grand Island Central Nebraska Regional Airport.
The first record occurred Friday, October 30 , when the temperature at Hastings Municipal Airport dropped to only 54 degrees .
That broke the previous daily warm low record of 52 degrees, established in 1947.
Another record followed Saturday, October 31 , when Hastings recorded a minimum temperature of 55 degrees.
The reading surpassed the previous record of 54 degrees, which had stood since 1933.
The streak continued Sunday, November 1 , when Grand Island Central Nebraska Regional Airport recorded a minimum temperature of 56 degrees , breaking the previous daily warm low record of 54 degrees set in 1987.
The National Weather Service notes that official temperature records in Grand Island date back to 1895, providing more than a century of historical observations for comparison.
These records are particularly notable because they involve overnight low temperatures rather than afternoon highs.
A record warm minimum occurs when the lowest temperature recorded during a calendar day remains warmer than the previous highest minimum temperature for that date.
The three records highlight an unusually mild stretch of late October and early November weather across portions of central Nebraska.
While the records demonstrate exceptional warmth for their respective dates, they do not necessarily indicate that the entire month will establish new temperature records.
Residents across Hastings, Grand Island and surrounding communities can monitor additional weather developments as November progresses.
