Hastings, NE – Nebraska experienced a remarkable combination of heavy rainfall and unusually warm temperatures Monday, Nov. 2, as Hastings shattered a 28 year old daily rainfall record while tying a high temperature record that dates back more than a century.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, the Hastings Airport recorded 1.70 inches of rainfall Monday, surpassing the previous Nov. 2 record of 0.67 inches established in 1998.
The new rainfall total exceeded the previous record by 1.03 inches, more than doubling the amount that had stood as the benchmark for nearly three decades.
Rainfall Record Falls After 28 Years The record breaking rainfall was accompanied by another notable weather milestone.
Temperatures at Hastings Airport climbed to 78 degrees Monday, tying the daily high temperature record previously reached in 2015, 2005 and 1914.
That means Hastings matched a temperature benchmark first established 112 years ago while simultaneously recording its wettest Nov. 2 on record.
The National Weather Service confirmed both milestones in an update issued early Tuesday, Nov. 3.
What This Means for Central Nebraska Hastings, located in Adams County in south central Nebraska, serves as a key weather observation location for the region southwest of Grand Island and west of Lincoln.

The rainfall total represents a historical daily measurement rather than a forecast for additional precipitation Tuesday.
