Hastings, NE — Residents across central and south central Nebraska and north central Kansas should prepare for increasing rain chances Sunday evening, Oct. 25, through Monday, Oct. 26, with some communities facing a high probability of rainfall and locations farther west favored for heavier totals.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, scattered showers remain possible Saturday afternoon through Sunday, but most locations will stay dry until a more organized period of rainfall develops Sunday evening.
Rain Chances Increase Sunday Evening Saturday, Oct. 24, will feature considerable dry time across the region, with only isolated showers possible.
Sunday afternoon will remain mostly dry for many communities before rain chances increase significantly during the evening.
By Sunday night, precipitation probabilities could climb above 80% in parts of central Nebraska.
Kearney, Lexington and Holdrege are among the communities expected to experience increasing rainfall chances as the system develops.
Monday Brings the Highest Rain Chances Monday, Oct. 26, is expected to bring the most widespread rainfall of the forecast period.
Rain probabilities could reach approximately 90% or higher around Kearney, Lexington and Ord, while Hastings and Grand Island could see chances approaching 80%.
The National Weather Service indicates that locations west of U.S. Highway 281 are favored for the greatest rainfall totals.
Some western communities have a substantial probability of receiving at least 1 inch of rain through Monday night.
Rainfall Totals Could Vary Sharply Rainfall amounts may decrease considerably farther east.
Communities near U.S. Highway 81 could receive one tenth of an inch or less, according to the forecast outlook.
This sharp west to east difference means some locations may receive meaningful rainfall while others experience relatively little.

Rainfall timing and amounts remain subject to change as the system approaches.
