Hastings, NE – Residents across central and south central Nebraska are facing a changing weather pattern this week, with fog and light rain possible overnight, temperatures climbing toward 80 degrees Wednesday and thunderstorms likely Friday, just one day before Halloween.
According to the National Weather Service in Hastings, Tuesday, Oct. 27, will remain mostly cloudy, with afternoon highs ranging from 54 to 65 degrees. Southerly winds of 5 to 15 mph are expected throughout the day.
Fog and Showers Possible Tuesday Night
Conditions could become more unsettled Tuesday night into Wednesday morning as pockets of dense fog and scattered light rain showers develop.
Overnight temperatures are expected to remain relatively mild, ranging from 46 to 56 degrees, with south southeast winds of 10 to 15 mph.
Drivers traveling through Hastings, Grand Island, Kearney and surrounding communities should remain alert for reduced visibility, especially during Wednesday's morning commute.
Temperatures Could Reach 79 Degrees Wednesday
Wednesday, Oct. 28, will bring a noticeable warming trend across the region.
Afternoon temperatures are forecast to climb between 68 and 79 degrees, with decreasing cloud cover and southwest winds of 10 to 20 mph.
Thursday, Oct. 29, will remain relatively warm, with partly cloudy skies and highs ranging from 65 to 76 degrees.
Friday Thunderstorms Could Affect Halloween Plans
The next significant weather change is expected Friday, Oct. 30, when the National Weather Service indicates rain and thunderstorms are likely across portions of the region.
The unsettled conditions arrive immediately ahead of Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 31, potentially affecting Friday evening travel and outdoor preparations.
However, the forecast does not yet establish whether rainfall will continue into Halloween itself.
Families planning trick or treating or weekend celebrations should monitor updated forecasts as the timing and coverage of Friday's storms become clearer.
