Glasgow, MT – Residents across northeastern Montana face a cold and wet start to the week as temperatures drop into the 30s and 40s Sunday, October 11, with rain, mixed precipitation and even snow possible in some communities through Monday.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Glasgow, much cooler conditions are expected Sunday and Monday, with widespread rainfall and the potential for wintry precipitation, particularly west of Montana Highway 191.
Temperatures Could Drop Into the 30s Sunday afternoon highs are forecast to remain well below the temperatures experienced during warmer stretches of early October.
Glasgow is expected to reach just 44 degrees Sunday , while Glendive could climb to 49 degrees.
Jordan and Plentywood are forecast near 44 degrees, with Malta around 42 degrees.
Colder conditions are expected near Opheim, where Sunday's high could reach only 40 degrees, while Zortman could remain near 38 degrees.
Monday brings another chilly afternoon, with temperatures falling to approximately 34 degrees in Zortman , 36 degrees in Opheim and 37 degrees in Winnett.
Rain Could Mix With Snow Forecasters expect rainfall to develop across the region Sunday and continue into Monday, with some locations receiving mixed precipitation or snow.
The greatest potential for wintry precipitation is expected west of Highway 191, where colder temperatures could allow rain to mix with or change to snow.
Rainfall amounts will vary, with some locations potentially receiving several tenths of an inch through Monday.
The NWS has increased expected rainfall amounts in its latest forecast.
Travel Conditions Could Become Difficult Wet weather and colder temperatures could create difficult travel conditions, especially on unpaved roads across rural northeastern Montana.
Drivers should prepare for muddy surfaces, reduced traction and changing conditions where wintry precipitation develops.
The colder pattern is expected to ease later in the week.
By Wednesday, October 14, Glasgow could return to 56 degrees, with temperatures climbing into the upper 50s and lower 60s in several communities by Thursday and Friday.
