Glasgow, MT – A winter weather advisory is in effect for part of north central Montana beginning Sunday, October 11, with up to 4 inches of wet snow possible in the Little Rocky Mountains and hazardous travel conditions developing along Highway 191.
According to the National Weather Service NWS in Glasgow, the advisory runs from noon Sunday until noon Monday, October 12, as a weather disturbance moves across the region, bringing rain to lower elevations and snow to higher terrain.
Forecasters expect 1 to 4 inches of wet snow across the Little Rockies, including higher elevations of southwestern Phillips County. The combination of accumulating snow and slick road surfaces could create dangerous driving conditions, particularly during the Monday morning commute.
Highway 191 Travel Could Become Hazardous
The National Weather Service specifically identified Highway 191 in southwestern Phillips County as an area where roads could briefly become snow covered or slippery.
Drivers traveling through the Little Rockies, including areas near Zortman, should prepare for changing road conditions as temperatures and precipitation vary by elevation.
Although the advisory is limited to portions of north central Montana, the approaching disturbance is expected to bring precipitation to a broader region, including rain outside the higher elevations.
What Montana Drivers Should Know
Motorists planning to travel Sunday afternoon, Sunday night or Monday morning should monitor updated forecasts and road conditions before leaving.
Wet snow can make mountain roads slippery, especially where accumulation develops faster than road surfaces can clear.
Drivers are encouraged to reduce speeds, allow additional stopping distance and remain alert for rapidly changing conditions along Highway 191.
The advisory is scheduled to expire at noon Monday, although travelers should continue checking for updated weather statements as the system moves through the region.
