Glasgow, MT – Drivers across northeastern Montana could encounter slushy roads Tuesday, Oct. 27, as a mixture of rain and snow moves into the region, with some communities near the Canadian border potentially receiving up to an inch of snowfall just days before Halloween.
According to the National Weather Service in Glasgow, wintry precipitation will spread eastward across northeastern Montana Tuesday morning, bringing periods of rain, snow and mixed precipitation to several communities.
The greatest potential for measurable snowfall is between Opheim and Scobey, where accumulations could reach approximately one inch.
Snow Possible Near Opheim and Scobey
Forecasters indicate that areas between Opheim and Scobey have the highest likelihood of accumulating snow Tuesday.
Snow or mixed precipitation could develop during the morning and continue into portions of the afternoon before gradually transitioning or ending.
Other communities, including Glasgow, Wolf Point, Plentywood, Malta and Sidney, could experience rain or a rain and snow mixture.
However, little to no snow accumulation is expected across most of the remaining region.
Slushy Roads Could Affect Tuesday Travel
The National Weather Service warns that slushy road conditions are possible anywhere snowfall occurs.
Motorists traveling through northeastern Montana should use caution, particularly on roads where wet snow begins accumulating.
Drivers may encounter changing pavement conditions as precipitation shifts between rain and snow throughout the day.
Reducing speed and allowing additional stopping distance can help lower the risk of crashes on slushy surfaces.
Wintry Weather Arrives Ahead of Halloween
Tuesday's precipitation comes just four days before Halloween on Saturday, Oct. 31, bringing an early taste of winter weather to parts of northeastern Montana.
The supplied forecast focuses on Tuesday's rain and snow event and does not establish whether additional snowfall will occur during Halloween weekend.
Residents planning travel or outdoor activities should monitor updated forecasts and check current road conditions before departing.
