St. Louis, MO – Missouri is favored to keep a warmer October pattern going from Oct. 12 18, while increased precipitation could add some rainy periods to the week.
The National Weather Service Climate Prediction Center’s 8 14 day outlook, issued Oct. 4, favors above normal temperatures across Missouri during the period. Above normal precipitation is also favored.
For St. Louis, Kansas City, Columbia and Springfield, the outlook suggests temperatures averaged across the seven days have better odds of finishing above normal. It does not mean every afternoon will be unusually warm.
Missouri’s fall temperature swings could still be noticeable. Clearer periods between weather systems can bring much cooler nights, particularly across rural areas and sheltered valleys.
Those cooler nights could eventually raise localized frost concerns if temperatures fall sufficiently. However, the CPC outlook does not provide daily minimum temperatures, so it is too early to determine whether frost will occur anywhere in Missouri during the Oct. 12 18 period.
Rain is the other part of the week’s broader signal. Above normal precipitation is favored, but the outlook cannot determine specific rainfall totals, storm tracks or which days will bring showers.
That leaves Missouri with a warm and wetter mid October setup , potentially featuring mild stretches interrupted by periods of rain and cooler nights.
More detailed National Weather Service forecasts should begin resolving individual rain systems and nighttime temperatures as Oct. 12 approaches, providing a clearer indication of whether any locations could become cold enough for frost.
