ST. LOUIS, MO — Residents across portions of Missouri and western Illinois should prepare for several days of unsettled weather beginning Tuesday night, October 13, with thunderstorms potentially producing large hail, damaging winds and locally heavy rainfall.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, showers and scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop Tuesday night and continue periodically through Thursday night, October 15. The greatest rain chances are forecast Wednesday into Thursday, when precipitation probabilities could reach 70% to 100%.
Strong Storms Possible Tuesday Night
Forecasters indicate a low chance of isolated strong to potentially severe thunderstorms Tuesday night across portions of central and northeastern Missouri and west central Illinois.
Any storms that become severe could produce large hail and damaging wind gusts.
The severe weather potential is not expected to affect every community equally, and the National Weather Service emphasizes that the threat remains limited and geographically focused.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts as the timing and location of stronger thunderstorms become clearer.
Rain Chances Climb to 100% Midweek
Wednesday, October 14, and Thursday, October 15, are expected to bring the highest likelihood of widespread showers and thunderstorms.
Rain probabilities ranging from 70% to 100% indicate a strong likelihood of precipitation across much of the forecast region.
Locally heavy rainfall is also possible with some thunderstorms, potentially creating reduced visibility and water accumulation on roadways.
Drivers traveling through the St. Louis metropolitan area and surrounding Missouri and Illinois communities should remain alert for changing road conditions during periods of heavier rain.
Stormy Pattern Continues Through Thursday
Thunderstorm chances are expected to persist into Thursday night before the current forecast period ends.
Although isolated severe storms are possible Tuesday night, the broader concern throughout the week will be repeated rounds of rain and thunderstorms.
Residents should consider adjusting outdoor plans, securing loose objects and keeping multiple ways to receive weather alerts.
The National Weather Service encourages residents to check local forecasts as additional information becomes available.
