St. Louis, MO – Missouri is entering October’s frost season, but the St. Louis region will stay well above frost levels this week as temperatures climb back into the 80s.
According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, a cold front crossing the region Sunday will bring little more than a temperature change. No precipitation and very little cloud cover are expected, with a steady warming trend developing during the workweek.
That means the season’s first frost is not expected in the immediate forecast across east central Missouri and west central Illinois. While colder nights become increasingly important to watch as October progresses, the NWS forecast through Friday keeps temperatures safely above freezing.
Sunday will feature sunshine and highs in the 70s, followed by overnight temperatures in the 40s and 50s.
Monday remains sunny with highs in the 70s before temperatures fall into the 40s Monday night. The NWS expects the coolest readings of the week Tuesday morning, but even those temperatures remain well above the freezing mark.
A pronounced warmup follows. Highs should approach 80 Tuesday before reaching the 80s Wednesday through Friday. Overnight lows also rise into the 50s during the second half of the week.
No precipitation is forecast through Friday.
For gardeners waiting for the first frost of fall, there is no immediate need for frost precautions based on this forecast. The St. Louis area instead faces several sunny and increasingly warm October days, with residents needing to watch later forecasts for the next significant autumn cold front.
