SPRINGFIELD, MO – Several days of hot October sunshine will give way to showers and possible thunderstorms Wednesday, Oct. 14, bringing potentially wet roads and changing travel conditions across Springfield and surrounding Greene County.
According to the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms become possible Tuesday night before continuing Wednesday. The approaching weather could affect morning commuters, outdoor workers and residents traveling across southwestern Missouri.
Wednesday's forecast calls for showers and possibly a thunderstorm, with partly sunny skies and temperatures reaching approximately 86 degrees. Rain remains likely Wednesday night, when temperatures fall near 65 degrees.
The unsettled conditions follow three consecutive afternoons with temperatures reaching at least 90 degrees.
Sunday, Oct. 11, brings increasing clouds and a high near 90 degrees. Southwest winds of 5 to 13 mph could gust to 21 mph.
Monday, Oct. 12, remains sunny and warmer, with temperatures reaching approximately 91 degrees. Southwest winds could gust as high as 26 mph, potentially affecting outdoor activities during the Columbus Day holiday.
Tuesday, Oct. 13, marks the hottest day of the forecast, with sunshine pushing temperatures to 92 degrees.
However, conditions begin changing Tuesday night.
The National Weather Service forecasts a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1 a.m. Wednesday, signaling the beginning of a wetter midweek pattern.
Drivers should watch for reduced visibility and slippery pavement if heavier showers develop. Thunderstorms could also interrupt outdoor activities.
Five Day Outlook: Thursday, Oct. 15, brings additional showers and possible thunderstorms, especially before 1 p.m., with temperatures reaching 79 degrees.
Friday turns partly sunny and cooler, with a high near 71 degrees.
Saturday, Oct. 17, brings mostly sunny skies and temperatures near 67 degrees.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts before Wednesday travel and outdoor activities as the midweek weather system approaches.
