SPRINGFIELD, MO — Southwest Missouri is heading into an unusually warm stretch for late October, with Springfield forecast to reach 80 degrees Thursday and 81 degrees Saturday. The mild conditions could be part of a broader pattern favoring warmer than normal temperatures as October ends and November begins, although the Oct. 26–Nov. 1 outlook does not specify daily highs.
According to NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, the eight to 14 day outlook issued Sunday, Oct. 18, covers Oct. 26 through Nov. 1. The national outlook is intended to show where average temperatures and total precipitation are most likely to fall above, near or below seasonal norms, rather than predict individual days.
Missouri's November Transition Could Stay Mild For Springfield and the surrounding Ozarks, the immediate forecast provides a striking example of how warm late October can become.
The National Weather Service expects mostly sunny skies Monday, Oct. 19, with a high near 71 degrees. Temperatures climb to approximately 74 Tuesday and 77 Wednesday before reaching 80 Thursday.
Friday is expected to remain sunny with a high near 79, followed by mostly sunny conditions and a high around 81 Saturday. Sunday could bring another afternoon near 80 degrees.
That would give Springfield several consecutive days with highs in the 70s and around 80 degrees during a time of year when temperatures normally trend downward.
The extended November outlook must be interpreted separately. While the broader national pattern may favor continued warmth, the supplied Springfield forecast does not establish exact temperatures for Oct. 26–Nov. 1.
Springfield, Branson and the Ozarks Face a Warm Week The near term forecast is particularly relevant to residents across Greene County and neighboring communities, including Republic, Battlefield and areas around Springfield.
Morning conditions will still feel noticeably cooler than the afternoons. Springfield's Monday morning observation at Springfield Branson National Airport showed 45 degrees, with a light southeast wind.
The forecast calls for an overnight low near 49 Monday night, followed by 50 Tuesday night, 52 Wednesday night and 54 Thursday night.
Those readings highlight the difference between cool autumn mornings and much warmer afternoons.
The National Weather Service also expects relatively quiet weather through the weekend, with sunshine dominating the daily forecast and no precipitation mentioned in the supplied Springfield forecast through Sunday.
What the Extended Outlook Means for November For Missouri residents, the important distinction is between the verified daily warmth expected this week and the longer range outlook beginning Oct. 26.
The CPC outlook addresses the average temperature pattern over seven days. Even an above normal temperature outlook would not guarantee that every afternoon remains unusually warm or that overnight temperatures cannot turn cold.
Precipitation also requires separate consideration. A warm temperature pattern does not automatically indicate dry weather, and the Springfield daily forecast cannot establish statewide rainfall tendencies for the following week.
As November approaches, updated forecasts should provide greater detail about whether Springfield's current warm stretch continues, how conditions differ across northern and southern Missouri, and when more typical autumn temperatures might return.
For now, Springfield residents can expect a notably mild week, including several afternoons near 80 degrees, before the extended November forecast period begins.
