KANSAS CITY, MO – A stretch of hot October sunshine will give way to widespread showers and possible thunderstorms Wednesday, Oct. 14, potentially disrupting commutes and outdoor activities across the Kansas City metropolitan area.
According to the National Weather Service, precipitation chances climb to 90% Wednesday, making it the wettest day expected in the current forecast. Temperatures will reach approximately 78 degrees as showers and possible thunderstorms move through the region.
The unsettled weather could affect drivers across Jackson, Clay and Platte counties in Missouri, along with neighboring communities in eastern Kansas. Wet pavement and reduced visibility may complicate travel during periods of heavier rainfall.
The National Weather Service's hazardous weather outlook also highlights increasing shower and thunderstorm chances across northwestern and west central Missouri and eastern Kansas during the middle of the week.
Before the rain arrives, temperatures will remain well above normal.
Sunday, Oct. 11, brings sunny skies and a high near 88 degrees. Southwest winds could gust to 23 mph.
Monday, Oct. 12, temperatures climb to approximately 90 degrees, with sunshine and southwest wind gusts reaching 30 mph.
Tuesday, Oct. 13, remains warm, with a high near 89 degrees. A 20% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms increases to 70% Tuesday night.
Showers and possible thunderstorms continue Wednesday night, with a 70% precipitation chance and temperatures falling near 61 degrees.
Five Day Outlook: Thursday, Oct. 15, brings a 50% chance of showers and thunderstorms before 1 p.m., with a high near 74 degrees.
Friday turns mostly sunny and cooler, reaching approximately 67 degrees.
Saturday, Oct. 17, brings sunshine and a high near 63 degrees.
Residents should monitor updated forecasts before Tuesday night and Wednesday travel, especially as the likelihood of rainfall increases.
