Kansas City, MO – Unseasonably warm, dry weather will continue across the Kansas City area through the weekend, with afternoon temperatures running about 10 to 15 degrees above normal and highs approaching 90 degrees in some locations.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, normal highs for this time of year are generally in the upper 60s to middle 70s. Temperatures will instead trend warmer through the weekend.
In the Kansas City area, forecast highs rise from 80 degrees Wednesday, Oct. 7, to 84 Thursday and 84 Friday. The NWS projects highs around 88 degrees Saturday and 88 Sunday, making the weekend the warmest part of the outlook.
Other parts of the region could get even warmer. Forecast highs reach 89 degrees at Paola on Saturday and 89 at Butler on Sunday. Clinton is forecast to reach 88 Saturday and 89 Sunday.
The warm afternoons will be accompanied by relatively mild nights. Kansas City area lows are forecast mainly in the upper 50s and lower 60s through the weekend.
Dry conditions are expected to prevail through the remainder of the week and weekend, so the temperature trend will be the primary weather story.
The pattern begins to change early next week as precipitation chances return. The NWS indicates only low rain chances of about 10% to 30% Monday and Tuesday, with better chances expected Wednesday.
Residents should expect the warmest weather Saturday and Sunday, followed by continued warmth early next week as rain chances gradually increase.
