Kansas City, MO – A stretch of unusually warm fall weather across the Kansas City metropolitan area is expected to give way to increasing rain chances this week as a slow moving cold front approaches, potentially bringing wetter and cooler conditions by the Halloween weekend.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City, temperatures will remain warmer than normal early in the week before scattered showers begin developing Tuesday, October 27, across portions of northern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.
The weather pattern is expected to become more unsettled later in the week, with rain chances expanding toward Saturday, October 31, and Sunday, November 1.
Monday, October 26: Warm and Mostly Dry
The region is expected to remain generally dry Monday following a warm Sunday that brought afternoon temperatures into the upper 70s, with some communities approaching 80 degrees.
The National Weather Service indicates that dry conditions should persist through the early part of the workweek.
Tuesday, October 27: Cold Front Approaches
A slow moving cold front is expected to approach the region Tuesday, bringing isolated to scattered rain chances across far northern Missouri and northeastern Kansas.
Temperatures are forecast to dip into the lower 70s.
Rainfall coverage is expected to remain limited initially, with some communities staying dry.
Wednesday Friday, October 28 30: Warmth Returns
Temperatures are expected to rebound Wednesday through Friday following Tuesday's brief cooldown.
The National Weather Service indicates that highs will climb again, although the latest outlook does not specify exact daily temperatures.
Rain chances may gradually increase as the weather system moves across the region.
Halloween Weekend, October 31 November 1: Wetter Pattern Possible
More widespread rainfall is expected to become possible toward the end of the week and into the weekend.
Temperatures could fall into the 60s and 70s as cooler air moves into the region.
The changing forecast may affect Halloween celebrations, outdoor events and weekend travel if showers become widespread.
However, exact rainfall timing and amounts remain uncertain.
Residents across Kansas City, St. Joseph and surrounding communities should monitor updated forecasts as the cold front approaches.
