KANSAS CITY, MO — A sharp shift toward fall weather will bring chilly temperatures and a possible frost risk to parts of the Kansas City region early Saturday, Oct. 17, before sunshine and a steady warmup push afternoon highs toward the upper 70s by Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Kansas City/Pleasant Hill, much cooler conditions are expected Friday and Saturday following several rounds of showers and thunderstorms earlier in the week.
The transition will bring Kansas City's daytime temperatures from approximately 74 degrees Thursday to just 57 degrees Friday, a 17 degree drop in 24 hours.
Chilly Nights Bring Possible Frost Risk The National Weather Service's Hazardous Weather Outlook, issued Tuesday, Oct. 13, specifically identifies patchy frost as possible early Saturday morning across portions of its forecast area, which includes northwest and north central Missouri and extreme eastern Kansas.
In Kansas City itself, Friday night temperatures are expected to fall to around 39 degrees under mostly clear skies.
Although the city's forecast does not explicitly predict frost, the broader regional outlook suggests some locations could experience colder conditions Saturday morning.
Residents with sensitive outdoor plants may want to monitor updated forecasts as temperatures approach the upper 30s.
The cooldown follows a period of unsettled weather, with the National Weather Service forecasting an 80% chance of precipitation Wednesday night and a 90% chance Thursday.
By Friday, the storm system should move out, allowing mostly sunny skies to return.
Sunshine Brings Temperatures Back Into the 70s Saturday begins the recovery, with sunshine and a high near 61 degrees.
Another cool night follows, with temperatures dropping to around 43 degrees before warmer air gradually returns.
Sunday brings mostly sunny skies and a high near 68 degrees, while Monday's temperatures climb to approximately 72.
By Tuesday, Kansas City could reach 77 degrees under sunny skies, marking a 20 degree increase from Friday's projected high.
NOAA's Weather Prediction Center has identified a broader temperature transition across the central United States as strong high pressure moves south from Canada.
For the Kansas City area, the local outlook suggests the cooler conditions will be brief, with several dry, increasingly mild days following the midweek rainfall.
